“Ik ben gedreven om als neurochirurg, samen met de patiënt, te zoeken naar de beste behandeling. Het kijken naar de patiënt in zijn of haar geheel is daarbij ontzettend belangrijk.”

Gefascineerd door het brein en het zenuwstelsel koos ik na mijn studie Geneeskunde in Rotterdam voor het specialisme neurochirurgie. Mijn opleiding tot neurochirurg volgde ik in het UMC Groningen, in de regio waar ik ben opgegroeid. Momenteel werk ik met veel plezier als neurochirurg in het ETZ: een topklinisch ziekenhuis waar het neurochirurgische vak in de volle breedte wordt uitgeoefend.

In de zorg vind ik het belangrijk om samen met u te kijken naar de best passende behandeling. Ik neem de tijd om u helder en in begrijpelijke taal te informeren, en om samen realistische verwachtingen te bespreken over de ingreep en het herstel.

Naast patiëntenzorg kijk ik graag naar het verbeteren van zorgprocessen: wat kan patiëntvriendelijker of efficiënter? En als meerdere operatietechnieken hetzelfde doel kunnen bereiken, welke keuze is dan het meest geschikt? Zowel de logistieke kant als de wetenschappelijke onderbouwing hebben hierbij mijn interesse.
