Door een reëel verwachtingspatroon te scheppen, kan ik helpen.

Ik heb de vooropleiding tot internist gevolgd in Arnhem en Nijmegen en ben daarna opgeleid tot intensivist in Nijmegen. Ik ben in 2003 in het ETZ komen werken. Ik ben hier fulltime intensivist.

Snelle diagnose en therapie

De dynamiek van de intensive care trekt me aan. Mensen kunnen hier heel ziek binnenkomen. We moeten dan heel snel de diagnose stellen en de therapie starten. Dit is een grote IC en we hebben - uitgezonderd hartchirurgie - alle specialismen ter beschikking in ons ziekenhuis. De meest complexe behandelingen kunnen we zelf uitvoeren. Voor traumapatiënten en neurochirurgie zijn wij zelfs tertiair verwijzingscentrum. Het komt dus zelden voor dat wij patiënten moeten overplaatsen naar een andere IC.

Ik werk nauw samen met alle andere behandelaren die betrokken zijn bij patiënten op de IC, zoals andere specialisten, de fysiotherapeut en de diëtist. Ik heb iedereen nodig en doe er alles aan om dat goed te coördineren. Daarom vindt er dagelijks een groot multidisciplinair overleg (MDO) plaats over al onze patiënten. In discussies over patiënten wil ik altijd de onderste steen boven krijgen. Soms chargeer ik een beetje, om te komen tot een duidelijk standpunt.

Reëel verwachtingspatroon

In mijn werk heb ik veel contact met patiënten en vooral familieleden. In de gesprekken ben ik empathisch maar ook eerlijk. Ik vind het belangrijk dat mensen goed begrijpen wat de problemen zijn en wat ze kunnen verwachten. Door duidelijke uitleg te geven en een reëel verwachtingspatroon te scheppen, kan ik daarbij helpen.
